A obra de arte como nuvem

(e o historiador de arte como... o quê?)

“The historician is, in every sense of the word, only the fictor, which is to say the modeler, the artisan, the author, the inventor of whatever past he offers us. And when it is in the element of art that he thus develops his search for lost time, the historian no longer even finds himself facing a circumscribed object, but rather something like a liquid or gas expansion – a cloud that changes shape constantly as it passes overhead. What can we know about a cloud, save by guessing, and without ever grasping it completely?”
